These paintings provide a glimpse of the amazing diversity of plants and animals still to be found, whether in the remains of the world's wildlands or in our own backyards. While this story of discovery and change seems hopeful, often these creatures survive only in a remnant habitat in rapid decline, often both in quality and quantity. As John C. Sawhill, a past president of the Nature Conservancy once said, “In the end, our society will be defined not only by what we create, but by what we refuse to destroy.”">
